Where exactly is The Hidden Mile?

At Suwakholi (also listed as Matholi), on the Mussoorie–Dhanaulti road in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand — about 16 km above Mussoorie and roughly twenty minutes short of Dhanaulti, at around 2,250 m.

How many rooms are there?

Eight. It is a homestay, not a hotel, and a single group can take the whole place.

What do the rooms cost?

The Valley Room is ₹5,500 a night for two and the Macramé Room is ₹4,000. Stay three nights or more between Sunday and Thursday and both are 15% less.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is 1pm to 10pm and check-out is 11am. If the road has been slow, tell us and the kitchen waits.

How do I book?

Send us your dates and how many of you there are on WhatsApp, and we reply with what is free and what it costs. There is no deposit link, no account to create and no app to install. There is also a short form on the homepage if you would rather not use WhatsApp.

Is it cheaper to book direct?

Booking direct means no platform commission is added to your room rate, and you are talking to the people who run the place rather than a call centre.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, and they stay free. There is a great deal of hillside for them.

Is there food on site?

Yes — Coffee & Clouds, our own cafe, which is also where breakfast happens. Tell us before you arrive what you do and do not eat and the kitchen will know.

How far is it from Delhi?

Roughly 300 km. Dehradun’s railhead is about 50 km below us and Jolly Grant airport about 83 km, which is about three hours.

Can I work from there?

Yes. There is desk space and Wi-Fi, and stays of three nights or more from Sunday to Thursday are 15% less.

What is there to do nearby?

Surkanda Devi at about 2,750 m, the deodar forest and eco parks at Dhanaulti twenty minutes on, Landour for the walks and the bakery, and Tehri Lake and Devalsari for the two that most visitors miss.

When is the best time to come?

March to June is the reliable season — warm days and cold nights. Winter is cold, quiet and sometimes white. Snow is never a promise, and anyone promising it in advance is selling you something.
