Most places that call themselves a homestay near Mussoorie are in Mussoorie — on Mall Road, or on one of the spurs just below it, with a hotel's layout and a homestay's name. We are sixteen kilometres further up the ridge, past Landour, at Suwakholi, and the difference is not a marketing one. It is the difference between a town with a view and a hillside with nothing else on it.

Why sixteen kilometres matters
Mussoorie's problem is not the town, it is the day. Between about eleven and six, Mall Road and the roads feeding it carry the entire day-tripper load of the region, and a room with a view over that is still a room with a view over that. Up here the same ridge carries a fraction of the traffic, and after dark there is no town glow on this stretch at all.
What you give up is honest to state: there is no market at the end of the lane, no chemist, and nothing to walk to at ten at night. If an evening out is the point of the trip, stay in town. We have written the comparison out properly on Mussoorie, Dhanaulti or the road in between.
The rooms
The Valley Room has the balcony and the view down the valley, at ₹5,500 for two. The Macramé Room is the quieter double at ₹4,000. Stay three nights or more between Sunday and Thursday and both are 15% less. Check-in is 1pm–10pm, check-out 11am.
Getting here
You drive up through Mussoorie and Landour and keep going — the views start before the town ends, and the last stretch runs along the ridge. Dehradun's railhead is about 50 km below, Jolly Grant airport about 83 km and three hours, and Delhi roughly 300 km. Every route and timing is on how to reach us.
Dogs
