How to reach us

The lane narrows near the end and most people think they have gone wrong. You haven't. Send us a message when you set off and we will tell you exactly where to turn, and walk down to meet you if the light has gone.

Also listed as Matholi. Google’s own address for us reads “C5X6+J2, Matholi, Uttarakhand 249180” — that is Google’s geocode for our Plus Code, and Matholi is the postal village. Suwakholi is the landmark everyone actually navigates by. Same place, same gate, whichever name you searched for.

Driving from Delhi

There are two sensible routes and they differ in character more than in time.

• Route AVia Dehradun and MussoorieDelhi → Meerut → Muzaffarnagar → Roorkee → Dehradun → Mussoorie → Suwakholi. This is the one we would pick. You climb through Mussoorie and Landour, the views start early, and you arrive at us before the road carries on to Dhanaulti.
• Route BVia Rishikesh and ChambaDelhi → Haridwar → Rishikesh → Narendra Nagar → Chamba → Kanatal → Dhanaulti → Suwakholi. Quieter road, fewer towns, and it follows the Ganga for a stretch. You approach us from the Dhanaulti side.
• Route CVia SaharanpurDelhi → Baghpat → Baraut → Shamli → Saharanpur → Dehradun → Mussoorie. Useful if you are starting from west or north Delhi and want to avoid Meerut.

Whichever you take, the last stretch is hill road. Leave early enough that you are not doing the bends after dark, particularly between November and March.

Flying in

Jolly Grant Airport (DED) at Dehradun is the closest, roughly 83 km and about three hours by road, with direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Lucknow. Taxis wait outside the terminal; agree the fare before you set off, or tell us your flight and we will arrange a car.

By train

Dehradun is the nearest useful railway station and connects to Delhi overnight and through the day. Rishikesh also works if you are taking the Chamba route. From either, it is a taxi or a shared vehicle up through the hills.

By bus

Buses for Uttarakhand run frequently from ISBT Kashmiri Gate in Delhi, both air-conditioned and not, most of them operated by Uttarakhand Transport Corporation. Take one as far as Dehradun or Mussoorie and continue by taxi — there is no direct service to the door.

Where we sit on the Mussoorie–Dhanaulti road

If you are measuring the drive between the two: we are 16 km out of Mussoorie, and Dhanaulti is roughly another twenty minutes on from us. So you pass our turning well before you reach Dhanaulti — handy if you want to see Dhanaulti in the morning and not stay in it.

The last mile

Cars reach the door in all but heavy snow, and parking is free and on site. If it has been snowing, message us before you make the final climb and we will tell you honestly whether to attempt it.
